Locations

Where exactly was the series filmed?
This I asked myself and then collected after some search the following information. These are also very interesting and helpful if a fan wants to follow the traces of Catweazle when going on holiday.
Here I have listed only the most important locations for otherwise it would be beyond the scope of this website.

But who wants to go more into detail then I recommend to contact the official Catweazle Fan Club. There you can get a very nice CD-Rom (Word file) "Catweazle Locations Series One" which contains really all locations of the 1st series.
There is also a DVD available with a detailed documentary about the locations of the 1st series.

And in the places Brickendon, Epping Green, Bayford and in the county of East Sussex.

The locations of the 2nd series

If you want to visit the locations of the first series and also like to attend the annual Catweazle Fan Club meeting it is handy to book the stay in Guildford. Guildford is very close to East Clandon and East Horsley and it takes only a few minutes by car.
Recommended is "The Guildford Hotel" in the High Street:

LOCATIONS OF THE 1st SERIES

"Hexwood Farm"

Home Farm in East Clandon (Surrey)

These pictures show the Home Farm in East Clandon. In the series this is the "Hexwood-Farm" of the Bennets.
Since 2003 the official Catweazle Fan Club organizes the annual Fan Club meeting here at the farm.  As part of the annual summer fete (village fete). Catweazle fans from all over the world come and meet, attend the autograph session with the stars of the series and visit some locations.
The current owners of the farm host the village fete, and Catweazle fans are welcome to attend the fete and view the Barn at "Hexwood" but for privacy reasons, fans are asked not to seek to view it at other times.

"Castle Saburac"

The water tower "Castle Saburac" was build especially for the series, in a small wood near the Home Farm. But it was not used for filming inside. For all the scenes on the tower was build an extra water tank on the ground. The scenes inside the water tower were shot in the film studios.
After the filming of the series Castle Saburac was pulled down and does not stand anymore. Which many fans find is a pity.
Also the small wood has changed during the years and from the big tree in the left picture there is only a stump remaining.
(Detailed directions to the small wood can be found on the locations CD-Rom.)

"Westbourne Folk Museum"

The museum in the episode "The Curse of Rapkyn" is in real a hotel and golfclub named "Foxhills".

The hairdresser's where Catweazle and Harold pinched a handful of hair in the episode "The Witching Hour" is still there and is still in use as a real hairderessser's!
Maybe some Catweazle fans like to get their hair done there?:

The lake in the last episode of the 1st series is called Boldermere Lake and is located near East Clandon. It takes approx. 15 minutes by car to get from East Horsley to the lake. The lake is located directly beside a motorway (A3) and there is no bus or train connection to it. Also Catweazle's tree on which he put his collected things in a row is still there.
