This page is dedicated to the wizard Catweazle.
Who does not know him, that loveable magician from the 11th century and his little toad Touchwood?
This TV series created by Richard Carpenter tells the story of the medieval wizard Catweazle, who by mistake caused by an
incorrect spell lands in the present times of the 20th century. And it has only happened because he wanted to escape from some
hostile Normans with the help of a flying spell. As he does not know anything about electricity, electric light and telephones
he takes everything that is a matter of course for us as great magic. An electric bulb to him is a little sun in a bottle, a
telephone a magic telling bone, and his expression for electricity is
also unforgettable: the
Elektrickery!
The series was first broadcast in England in 1970 and lasted for 13 episodes in 2 different
series.
It was first presented in Germany in 1974. Geoffrey Bayldon’s unique presentation of the odd magician Catweazle will remain unforgettable. It was one of his most important
performances.
From the moment since I saw Catweazle the first time in 2005, when the German DVD version came out, I have been so fascinated by it that I have been looking for more background information about
it.
At last I had collected so much information that I thought of sharing it with other fans on a special web page.
And here it is at last – in German and in English.
I hope to make those people interested in this wonderful series, who don’t know Catweazle yet, a series like there should be more of today.
I wish you good fun when going through my page.
Salmay, Dalmay, Adonay!
